There are many factors that can affect the fit of your rails and stiles including wood hardness, wood density, and humidity. Therefore it is important that your rail and stile bits are properly shimmed and tested on the same type of wood that you will be using for your doors.

Use this guide as a reference to help achieve a perfect fit.

All of the inner sides of the rail and stile (indicated by the red lines) are cut with the profile bit.

Only the ends of the rails (indicated by the blue lines) are cut with the coping bit.

In this case the profile bit cut the design tongue too thin. Add shims between the groove cutter and the design cutter to increase the height of the design.

In this case the coping bit cut the tongue too thin.Add shims within the tongue space to add height to the tongue.
